    History

    Deogarh District, also known as Debagarh District, was newly created on 1.1.1994, being bifurcated from Sambalpur District. Debagarh is the former capital of Bamanda or Bamra princely state of British India. The king of this princely state belongs to Ganga vamsi dynasty and one of the extended royal family of Gajapati emperor of Odisha.The District is surrounded by Angul District on its east and south, Sambalpur District on its west and Sundargarh District on its north. This is a district of Koshal region and is situated in the western region of the state having its head quarters at Deogarh town.
